A Family Vow Renewal on the Hills of Nice, French Riviera

Nice and the Colline du Château: a setting for what matters most

The Colline du Château sits above the old city of Nice — stone terraces, umbrella pines, and a panoramic view that takes in the harbour, the rooftops, and the full sweep of the Mediterranean. It is the kind of place that asks you to slow down. For Pat and Marlow, who chose Nice as the backdrop for a family holiday with their four children, it felt like the only right place to mark twenty years together. For couples considering a vow renewal on the French Riviera, the Colline du Château offers something rare: a setting that feels both grand and completely intimate.

The ceremony on the Colline du Château

The ceremony was intimate and unhurried — just the family, the officiant, and the Mediterranean stretched out below. Pat and Marlow had written their own vows. Their children spoke too, reading words they had prepared themselves: a moment that no one in that family will forget. The late afternoon light caught the stone balustrade, the harbour glittered in the distance, and for a while, Nice asked nothing of anyone except to be present. If you are planning a wedding in Nice, the Colline du Château is one of our favourite settings on the Riviera.

Pat & Marlow: twenty years, honestly earned

They met in the summer of 2002 at work — he was the bartender, she was the waitress. After their shift, she borrowed his phone to check her messages. He kept her number. They moved in together quickly, built a house, started a family, and on October 8, 2005, they married at the Nonantum Hotel in Kennebunk, Maine.

What followed was a life lived at full speed — businesses built and sold, homes bought and moved, children raised, adventures taken. And alongside the highs, some of the lowest lows a couple can face together: the loss of a parent, the loss of their son Bradley, born prematurely. Moments that would have broken many. Instead, they did the work — sought help, made changes, and found their way back to each other.

Twenty years in, they wanted to say so. Not quietly, and not alone — but here, on a terrace above the sea, with their children standing beside them.

The photo session above Nice

After the ceremony, the family stayed on the terrace as the light changed. The photos from this session capture something that is hard to manufacture: a couple who have been through a great deal together, and know it — and three children who were there for all of it. The bouquet of peach roses and white flowers, the grey suit, the white dress, the harbour below. A family portrait that tells the truth.

They connected on Facebook — no mutual friends, just a video of Allisa playing piano. David was in Barcelona. Sixty days after their first date, he proposed at Glacier National Park. On a bright January afternoon in Nice, they said their vows, just the two of them, with the Mediterranean as their witness.
