Wales has some of the most spectacular landscapes, and the most iconic castles, abbey’s and ruins in the whole of Europe. Its dramatic coastline and the heights of Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons make it a magnet for walkers and nature lovers from all over the world. If you want something with a bit more urban energy we recommend the Cardiff waterfront – now tastefully re-developed as Mermaid Quay. Set in a stunning waterfront location in the heart of Cardiff Bay, it’s the perfect place for dining out or relaxing over a drink in one of the 30+ award-winning restaurants, bars and cafés. But if it’s love-stories filled with romance that we’re here to celebrate, what more appropriate place than Llanddwyn Island? The island is the final resting place of St Dwynwen, Wales’ patron saint of lovers. Or Castell Coch, the marquess of Bute’s Gothic creation with its staggeringly colourful interior and beautiful woodland setting, is everyone’s picture of a storybook castle straight out of a fairytale. Or for full on romance, get married in the adorable village of Portmeirion, designed in the style of an Italian village and one of Wales’ most picture perfect places. It was made famous as the infamous village in the hit TV series The Prisoner. With its colourful houses and a secluded beach, it is truly breathtaking – and you’ll also find a brilliant spa and a restaurant with spectacular views. Or the ruins of Tintern Abbey. Not only is this place surround by stunning scenery, it’s also known for inspiring poet William Wordsworth to remind us to “connect the landscape with the quiet of the sky”.
