A Micro-Wedding at Villa Regina Teodolinda, Lake Como

Getting Ready & First Look

Sara and Max chose Lake Como in October for one of the most naturally beautiful settings a wedding can offer — the last warm light of the season, the mountains reflected on still water, the gardens of Villa Regina Teodolinda draped in autumn colours. With fifteen guests at their side, they celebrated an intimate micro-wedding that felt exactly right — not scaled down, but perfectly sized. A flower-framed arch overlooking the lake, a long table set in the villa’s cobbled courtyard, fairy lights in the trees as the evening settled in. Before the ceremony, Sara arrived by Riva boat — gliding past the medieval bridge of Nesso, the lake at its most cinematic. It is the kind of arrival that stays with you.

At Villa Regina Teodolinda, everything comes together naturally — the stone steps, the walled garden, the private dock, the faded ochre facade that has watched over Lake Como for centuries. For a micro-wedding on Lake Como, few venues feel this genuine. And for those drawn to the quiet beauty of northern Italy, a wedding in Italy remains one of the most enduring choices a couple can make.

The morning of the wedding, Sara’s bridesmaids helped her into her veil in one of the villa’s intimate rooms — encaustic tiles underfoot, a carved stone fireplace behind. Then came the first look in the courtyard, Max waiting with his back turned as Sara walked toward him across the cobblestones. A quiet moment before the ceremony, just the two of them and the ochre facade of Villa Regina Teodolinda.

The Ceremony

The ceremony took place in the garden of Villa Regina Teodolinda, right at the water’s edge. A circular arch of blush and white blooms framed the couple against the open lake — the mountains of Como fading into the October mist behind them. Fifteen white chairs, rose petals on the grass, and the quiet sound of the water below. Nothing more was needed.

Sara walked to the altar escorted by her family, the garden path lined with loose petals. The ceremony was held entirely in the open air, with the lake as the only backdrop needed — no walls, no ceiling, just water and mountains and the particular stillness of a Lake Como October morning.

They exchanged their vows under the arch, facing each other and the lake in equal measure. Around them, fifteen guests seated on the grass — close enough to feel every word, far enough to let the moment breathe.

The love photo session

After the ceremony, Sara and Max took to the lake for their photo session — aboard a classic Riva boat, the engine quiet, the water dark and still. They drifted past the medieval bridge of Nesso, its stone arch reflected in the lake, the ivy-covered facades of the old village glowing red in the October light. It is one of those locations that needs no direction — the setting does all the work.

Sara sat in the bow of the boat, the veil catching the breeze, the mountains framing everything behind her. These are the portraits Lake Como does best — unhurried, cinematic, with the feeling that the rest of the world has receded. A drone shot from above captured the full length of the Riva cutting through the water, two people alone on the lake, the day still ahead of them.

The Reception

As the evening settled over the lake, the courtyard of Villa Regina Teodolinda transformed quietly — candles lit along the reception table, the fairy lights in the old tree above coming to life one by one. Sara and Max moved through the space with their guests, unhurried, the formality of the ceremony already behind them. A group shot on the terraced steps of the villa, fifteen people who had travelled to be here, the lake and the mountains of Como still visible behind them.

Dinner was served in the open air, the villa illuminated against the October night. From above, the courtyard looked like something out of another century — the stone facade, the glowing tree, the long table with its candles and white linen. It was the kind of evening that is difficult to leave.
